Folate Plus Iron: Helps prevent neural tube defects in babies. Decreases woman’s risk of iron deficiency anemia and her infant’s risk of low birthweight, premature birth, and low levels of iron.

Folate is a B-vitamin (B9) that is naturally present in many foods. A form of folate, called folic acid, is used in dietary supplements and fortified foods. Our bodies need folate to make DNA and other genetic material. Folate is also needed for the body’s cells to divide. The amount of folate you need depends on your age.

Iron is a mineral that the body needs for growth and development. Your body uses iron to make hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body, and myoglobin, a protein that provides oxygen to muscles.
