Zinc is not only a nutrient, it is life because zinc is part of numerous enzymes in our body. Among its functions are:
Strengthen the immune system to fight bacteria and viruses that invade the body.
Key in the production of proteins and DNA, the genetic material present in all cells.
It intervenes in the processes of growth and development during pregnancy, infancy and childhood.
Necessary in wound healing.
Participates in the normal functioning of the senses of taste and smell.
Zinc is present in all organs, tissues, fluids and secretions of the human body. 83% of the zinc in our body is in muscle and bone and 95% of it is found inside the cells, but there are no conventional reserves of zinc in tissues that can be released or stored in response to variations in the diet.
Therefore, it is of vital importance to guarantee a daily intake of Zinc, either through foods ,or supplements, or both. In cases of not being able to cover zinc requirements, it can be consumed alone or combined with Vitamin C to enhance its functions in all the above mentioned processes.
